US Navy homecoming

It’s really too bad I don’t have more time to do these military homecoming shoots for Operation Love. I love doing them, but with so much other work I should be doing instead, it’s hard to find the time to do them.

But when I got a call from Teri-Lynn for this shoot, I decided to take the morning “off” and photograph her husband’s  homecoming.

Teri-Lynn has four kids and three grand kids. I know it’s hard to believe that she has three grand kids! It was her husband’s last deployment so this homecoming was particularly special for her and her family.

max and jake’s big race

Our good friends, Paula and Steve Cook, had their 2nd annual charity run and walk at Mission Trails Park yesterday. Their story is amazing and the work they have done for Rady’s Children’s Hostpital is admirable. You can read all about their event at Max and Jake’s Big Race. I can’t believe how much work they put into organizing their charity.

I’m not much of a morning person, but for such a great cause and a great opportunity to get me and my whole family out for a trail walk, I was willing to get out of bed a little earlier. Our kids had a great time including Jackie who I carried on my back the whole time while trying to shoot photos and video.

taylor turns 5

I don’t just shoot weddings. Sure, I’ll even photograph a kids party. What’s not to like about a bunch of kids running around eating cake?

To further enhance my video skills, I photographed and video taped our friend’s daughter’s birthday party.

The party was held at a children’s art studio in North Park, the Rare Hare Studio. What a great place for a party! The kids had a blast doing all sorts of customized art projects for Taylor’s butterfly themed party. For those of you that don’t know, my sister-in-law, runs an art studio which offers art classes for kids with an emphasis on using recycled materials. You should deinitely check out her website and see all the cool projects kids have done there.

So, if you’re having a party for your child, but already have enough on your plate without having to worry about taking photos or video, give me a call.

tiffany’s bat mitzvah

I had a wedding to shoot on the same day as Tiffany’s bat Mitzvah. But fortunately my associate photographer, Pam, was able to shoot the event for me. As usual, she did an amazing job!

I knew this Bat Mitzvah was going to be amazing beacuse Jim Lennox of Pacific Events was responsible for producing this one. Like all his other events, this Bat Mitzvah had no shortage of incredible details.

I wish I could have been there, but judging by the photos, Tiffany had a great time!

homecoming

Where do I start…I have to say today’s shoot at the Camp Pendleton Marine Corp Base was such an amazing experience, I don’t think I can really explain it all in a short blog post.

A month or so ago I was contacted by Annie, the wife of a Marine who was on his way home from a 7 month deployment. He was also coming home to see his 5 month old son for the first time. When she asked me to be there to photograph her husband’s arrival, I was honored and thrilled for the opportunity.

I have the utmost respect for anyone serving in the military and the very least I could ever do is to take some photographs for a family who has sacrificed so much on our behalf. So I offered to do the shoot for free.

Annie, her kids, her brother, her parents, and her grandparents were all there and I was amazed that they were constantly thanking ME for taking the photos. Them thanking me? I should be the one thanking them! They were all SO nice it was a pleasure photographing their family.

Anyway, I could go on all day about the excitement, the emotion, the amazing photo ops, etc. It was quite the experience for me. Needless to say, I couldn’t wait to get home and go through the photos.

Thank you to the Bull family for such a great experience!

ryan’s bar mitzvah

Although I was busy photographing a wedding that day, my associate photographer, Pam, was available to capturing such a special day for Ryan and his family. As you can see she did an amazing job.

The ceremony was at the Temple Beth Israel in UTC. Then it was back to Ryan’s house for the party. Since Ryan is a very talented tennis player, it only made sense to have a tennis theme for the party. What a unique theme. Ryan’s mother, Kristen, along with the help of Jim Lennox at Pacific Events, did a fantastic job with all the details from the giant tennis balls hanging overhead, the tennis match tickets for place cards, to the tennis ball cupcakes.

Congratulations to Ryan and his family!

sydney’s bat mitzvah

I have to say, Sydney and her family sure know how to throw a party! I had the pleasure of hanging out with Sydney and her family for this three day event.

The party at the La Jolla Hyatt was simple unbelievable. The party started off in the pavilion while the crew from Pacific Events and Wayne Foster Entertainment had about 3 hours to transform the ballroom from a plain room to an incredible themed party. There was a corporate event in the ballroom which ended at 5pm and the room had to be ready for guests at 8pm! I was amazed at how quickly the transformation took place.

Needless to say, once the party started, the 170 kids and 200 adults sure had a great time!

There were so many activities for the kids there are too many to name here. Tatoos, jewely making, air brushed clothing, two photo booths, make your own dancing head videos, etc. I have never seen anything on this scale.

Congratulations Sydney!
