OK, so it’s not the Ellen Show or American Idol, but a photojournalist from the local NBC affiliate came on Tuesday to shoot a story about Micah winning the writing contest. We had no idea what to expect or what Micah and Francesca would say, but they did a great job.
The photojournalist was really great. He even let Micah interview him afterward for her journalism class/school newsletter.
Here’s a few photos of the interview in our living room:
Here’s the final story which aired today. They had two versions, one at 4pm and one at 6pm:

OK, sorry to brag about my kids again, but here goes…
My wife always encourages our kids to write since they love to read but don’t really like writing. So Robin found a student publishing writing contest by the Weekly Reader magazine. She told Micah to write a short essay about a life experience to submit to the contest.
Apparently this is a national contest open to elementary and high school students. I am not sure how many kids submitted entries, but we received an e-mail a few days ago notifying us that Micah won the elementary school individual category! We couldn’t believe it.
So, as a winner, she and I get to attend the awards ceremony in Washington, DC in June. The contest sponsors pay for round trip airfare and hotel in Washington, DC. Micah gets a check for $500! In addition to attending the awards luncheon, we were just informed that the contest winners are invited to a backyard BBQ at Joe Biden’s house.
Needless to say, Micah is SO excited. She has never been to DC so we are trying to figure out how many sights we can see in only a few days.
We are SO proud of her!
Here’s a copy of her winning essay.
