I was at the Hotel Del Coronado again for Annie and John’s wedding. Although I am at the Del shooting weddings regularly, for me, the weddings are so much more about the people than the location. Don’t get me wrong though. The Del is one of my favorite places to shoot in San Diego.
But when I show up to start my day, it always hits me how important this day is to the bride and groom. That’s what pushes me to do the very best I can regardless of the location, the schedule, or anything that’s going wrong. I love seeing the emotions, the interaction with friends and family, etc. Because ultimately that’s what it’s all about.
I could certainly tell how much in love Annie and John are. And you can also tell a lot about the couple when you see them interact with their friends and family. Little did I know how truly amazing they both are.
During the toasts John’s father talked about how John always spent his time off doing relief work instead of going to the best spring break spots. In addition, John is quite the poker player. He won a lot of money playing in the World Series of Poker (in the “Main Event” for those of you in the know). But he took a large percentage of his winnings and used it to build schools in Pakistan! And to top it off, he’s currently a school teacher in South Central Los Angeles. What an amazing guy. It sure is humbling and inspiring to hear about someone who truly does give back in a big way. It sure makes wedding photography seem so much less important… I need to start doing more!
Of course, their day was hardly unimportant. Huge thanks goes to Karen Tran Florals and Emily Smiley- Wedding Consultant for making my job so much easier.
Congratulations to Annie and John!
