january 31st, 2008 – a very special day

Certainly a very special day for us… We were scheduled to have our baby on February 5th, but he decided he had had enough and wanted out early. He really caught us by surprise since we were all set for Feb. 5th delivery.

So we have a new baby boy! Robin and the baby are doing great.

Born January 31st, 2008 at 5:58am. 7lbs. 14oz. 19″

But what’s his name?

Well up until now everyone in our family has had a terrible time trying to come to a consensus on a name for the new baby. Even with his early arrival we were still undecided…JackieRobinsonSM.jpg

Our top two choices were Joshua and Jackie. Robin is a huge baseball fan and has always loved Jackie Robinson and all that he accomplished and all that he represents. So Jackie was high on the list of names. But when it came time to decide while we’re staring at our baby at the hospital we finally decided on Joshua. Finally we made a decision. We called our families, friends, etc. and told them all that Joshua had arrived!

So much for being decisive… After I had left to take the kids to dinner, Robin’s sister, Erin, called her and told us a truly incredible fact: Today is Jackie Robinsons’ birthday! Jackie Robinson was born on January 31st, 1919.

Well, how could we not name him Jackie now. It must be fate or destiny or some incredible coincidence…

So everyone, meet Jackie Charles Fong: (He’s Jackie, Robin’s son. OK, I just couldn’t resist…) (We also reserve the right to change his name again at any time…)

In San Diego, it’s not supposed to rain much, but the weather reports almost guaranteed rain for Saturday, not just a little, but several inches…

Well, fortunately they were wrong. The day turned out warm and no rain at all. I know they say rain is good luck on a wedding day, but I think people just say that to make everyone feel better. 😉

We started off at the Manchester Grand Hyatt in downtown San Diego. Then the ceremony was at the Immaculata at the University of San Diego. It was a good thing the bridal party left the hotel in the limo early since the limo broke down on the way to the church! Amazingly they were able to get another limo and get to the church in time for the ceremony.

After that it was on to Emerald Chinese Seafood Restaurant for a great 10 course Chinese banquet complete with lion dancers. (a great place for dim sum, BTW.)

Here’s a link to their slideshow.

holly’s senior portraits

I shot a quick session for the older sister of my daughter’s school friend. Shooting in the studio was quick and easy.

The studio allows me to do a combination of studio shots and natural light shots near the windows and on the steps.

If you know anyone looking for senior portraits that are well beyond the typical school photo, give me a call. I can also do the portraits on location at the beach, park, downtown, etc.

a great way to start the new year

Our good friends, Michelle and Mike (I shot their wedding last year.), spent the early hours of New Year’s Day in the hospital delivering the first child! What a way to start the new year. She was actually due on Christmas Day, but ended up delivering on New Years instead.

I was lucky enough to shoot some newborn portraits at their home today. What a great baby. He didn’t cry at all. In fact he hasn’t cried much since he was born.

Congratulations on your first baby!
