By now, I am sure everyone has seen and read just about everything about the fires here in San Diego, so I don’t have much to add about the fires.
Thankfully myself, my family, and my extended family are safe and our homes are all intact.
For those poeple who were victims of the fire, our thoughts and prayers are with you.
If any of my former clients were affected by the fires, please let me know. Since I have kept every photo I have ever taken, I still have any photos I have taken of you. If you need any prints replaced due to fire damage, I can do that for you at no charge. If you lost your home to the fires, I can offer you prints from previous sessions or events at no charge.
On a related note, many of the local wedding and portrait photographers in Southern California are offering free portrait sessions and prints to those families that lost their homes in the fires. This project is known as Project Hierloom. I know it’s not high on anyone’s priority list at this time, but eventually we feel that many families will want to have portraits done. It’s not much, but we felt it was something we could do to help the fire victims.
I would imagine there are families who are mourning the loss of their homes, but feel thankful to have each other and to be safe. What better way to celebrate having each other than getting portraits done.
If you know anyone who lost their homes to the fires, please let them know about the free portrait sessions. You can find more information here:
Take care everyone and be safe.

Finally a weekend with only one wedding!
Another great wedding at the L’Auberge Del Mar Resort and Spa. Emily Smiley was the coordinator for this wedding and everything ran smoothly thanks to her.
The decor was all about brightly colored Gerbera daisies and the very cool arrangements by Annette Gomez. (The arrangements were so cool I actually took one home! Emily said it was OK…)
This wedding was full of surprises for the guests. They had a bag pipe player leading Molly into the wedding ceremony, a candy bar with lots of great sweets, a martini ice sculpture which evolved into a shot “luge” later in the evening…

Davia and David…yes that’s right 2nd couple this weekend with similar names. (See “maki + maki“)
Although they are from New York, they decided to get married at the Temecula Creek Inn in Temecula, CA. What a great choice! Their wedding took place at the Stone House which is a cool little stone house, of course, tucked away near the golf course. The setting was amazing, the beautiful trees, foot bridges, and other rustic decor.
It ends up that David’s sister, Masha, babysits our kids. That’s how we found Davia and David. Thanks for the referral Masha.

I can say I’ve never had a wedding in which the bride and groom both have the same name! The groom’s name is really Terrence, but he has been called “Maki” since he was a small child. It must have been fate for both Maki, the bride, and Maki, the groom, to met and get married. Of course, it sure made the day interesting when I would say, “Maki, can you stand with your back towards me,” and both of them would turn around! (Would you believe that the wedding I had the next day was with “Davia and David“!)
Although the weather seemed ominous that day, the rain stopped and by the time the ceremony came, the sun was out and the sky was beautiful. Somehow it always seems to work out that way.
The wedding took place at the beautiful Mesa Verde Country Club in Costa Mesa, CA. There were lots of great spots to shoot in spite of not being able to go out on the golf course. Thanks to Amy, the coordinator at the club for pointing out all the good spots and making the day run smoothly.

They also had a cool, old school photo booth:

I had the privilege of photographing Jena’s Bat Mitzvah at her home for the rehearsal and at the Fairbanks Ranch Clubhouse for the party. It was also a great family reunion with many of her relatives travelling from South Africa.
Both settings were amazing and the weather couldn’t have been more perfect at Faribanks Ranch. Jena and her mom did an incredible job with the decor with all the bright colors and butterflys.
Clearly it was a perfect celebration!

Melissa and Hayden were married at Seagrove Park in Del Mar, CA and then had their reception at the beautiful L’Auberge Del Mar hotel. Although the weather the day before was less than ideal, the weather on Saturday was absolutely amazing. Since Melissa and Hayden are from the east coast, I’m glad they ended up with some of the best Southern California weather ever!
The day went like clock work without a hitch thanks to Susanne Duffy at Crown Weddings. She is fabulous. As you can see the chuppa by LaVonne Zamora at Adorations floral and event design was absolutely stunning!
They had their reception out on the terrace and then after dessert everyone moved to the ballroom which was transformed into a cool nightclub complete with ice bar, live band, and lounge furniture. Melissa and Hayden even changed into their all white dancing attire to match the club decor!
